I made this piece by throwing three cylinder vases on the wheel and once they were a bit dry, I slipped and scored to connect them. I then went in with more clay to reinforce the connection. Once it was a bit more dry, I went in and carved the detail such as the dots on the rims and the black curves in the middle of each vase.
I used a white Terasig glaze, buffed it, and then did a raku firing. Once out of the firing, it was sat on a lazy suzanne and cooled for about 3-5 minutes. We then got the horse hair (thanks to Andre and Austin) and layed it on the still steaming hot vase. We drug the horse hair in certain places for different effects, and as it burned it left the black lined designs that you see all over the piece.
I went in with black acrylic paint and painted in the details. It is a very "southwest" piece especially with the red-orange flowers I chose.
