Lately in Sculpting

Lately in sculpting we have been working on portraits. We could choose full torso and up, mid-torso, or the shoulders and up. This is what I've gotten so far. Also, the assignment consists of exaggeration. I look forward to finishing this project and seeing the final piece.

Garden World

Today in Advanced Digital Photography we went to Garden World. Our goal was to get as close as we could to the detail in flowers where the image was still sharp. Today was perfect weather for such events, the green house was gorgeous and refreshing, and yes, it was simply a beautiful day to be taking photos of flowers.

There has been absolutely no editing done to these photographs.

McCarty's

These are just a couple of photos I shot while having a traditional breakfast with Amanda and Korbyn  at McCarty's (famous for their breakfast burritos). I believe they have the best freshly ground coffee in Eastern New Mexico.

New Mexico Sunset

Today, my mother and I drove out to Elida, New Mexico and took pictures of wind turbines at sunset. It was beautiful and there were a lot of cattle that were irritated with us. Good times were had and I am always reminded of why so many love New Mexico.

Best Friend

This is a photo of my best friend Amanda and her gorgeous baby boy, Korbyn Turner. I am visiting them for my spring break in New Mexico, where I graduated high school. Korbyn has two bottom teeth, is crawling, and is simply a happy baby. Thought I would share some of my loves with everyone.

Artwalk

I decided yesterday that artwalks stress me out. There are entirely too many people. It becomes difficult to enjoy the art. However, fun time were had. People walking around in Star Wars costumes, dream interpreters, henna tattoos, live music, Monks Coffee Shop, and of course amazing art at The Center, Cockrell Gallery, The Grace, and the ACU gallery.

No matter how much they stress me out, I do enjoy and love Abilene. More art centered and cultured than where I'm from...

The Earth Within Itself

This is one of my abstract pieces from my ceramic sculpting class that I rakued today. I threw a bowl on the wheel, used a wire tool to cut the bowl in half with fun designs. I then cut the bottom off the bowl and assembled the two pieces that I had cut with the wire tool together; the design side facing outward. The bottom of the bowl is now the base of the sculpture.

I used a "Copper Penny" Raku glaze that I have never been disappointed with.
In Photography today, my assignment was to take 25+ pictures of the same thing. Different angels, lighting, etc. I went ahead and chose the sculpture as my focus.

Me

This is me preparing for the Honors Induction Ceremony. My boss in the Arts and Letters Department asked me to take pictures at the shindig. She let me borrow the school's camera.. and yes, I took advantage of the time I had with it.

Martha's White Vase

Martha's White Glaze on slab vase with lavender potpourri.

Raku

This is one of my favorite Raku pieces that I've done. If I remember correctly it is a half dipped in a glaze titled "Alligator Skin" and the other half in "Copper Penny".

Today in Adv.Photo.

Today we went to the Abilene Zoo for my photography class. It was a gorgeous day, enough to where if you stood in the sun too long, sweat was bound to happen. The Flamingos were a beautiful pink and I realized I didn't have so much against the color after all.
The Frogs were adorable and I remembered when my sister and I would catch baby frogs out in the rain when we lived in small town Lazbuddie, TX.

Here are just a couple of photos that I took today.

The Tallest Man

In September, I had an amazing concert experience: The Tallest Man on Earth. It was a standing venue at the House of Blues in Dallas, and not only was I in the very front, but I came very close to getting hit in the head with his guitar neck during the song "The Gardner". This is an image taken with my digital camera after The Tallest Man walked off stage and left his guitars where they lay. Single man band, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
